California poppies are very different from the bright scarlet poppies we see in European fields. I love them both; catching glimpses of the red poppies in local fields is always a thrill….but my California heart completely melts when I come across a familiar foreigner in an Essex garden.

Isn’t it lovely that a simple flash of botanical colour
can flood the heart with happy memories?
